Entry #1 How this whole thing Began

and just how quickly things can start...

Picture
It is mid April,  and I have just received my tax return which means its craigslisting season! As I make the rounds through kijiji, craigslist, realtor.ca, repo.ca, ect I filter my findings through the lens of what would be the most exciting project. What exactly I am in search of I am not sure but I do know its out there and all it requires is all of my time and energy…whatever it may be. In the most general of terms, I am looking for some form of business opportunity. Whether it is a cheap piece of acreage in the middle of nowhere BC, or simply an old trailer chassis to build a tiny home on. I am in search of a project to build both my skills as a carpenter, and challenge me to create a business.
I have no formal education in entrepreneurship or business, nor have I worked jobs that would be considered anything more than ‘labourer’, but I do have an overwhelming need to create. Recently I have one specific idea that has really been keeping me up at night, which is building some sort of unique structure to house a coffee roaster. Initially I really liked the idea of getting an old train caboose, but its weight and cost to freight swayed that idea quickly. Then I really dove deep trying to find an old Trollycar with a molly top roof allowing light in the ceiling, but as expected there were none available.

With no results found on the trolly, I figured I may be able to make an older school bus look like a Trollycar by cutting the roof open, raising the middle, and adding some narrow windows. As I scroll through the endless pages of fifth hand school buses I come across exactly what I am looking for. Its Unique, its functional, its got tons of space, it’s a 1967 Daimler Double Decker bus!

Patrick Sills is the owner and creator of Double Decker Coffee Roasting.  The purpose of the Build Blog is to share the story of the physical build, its components, Patrick's growing education in the coffee industry, and the overall creation of the business. Warning: if run on sentences, poor sentence structure, or simple spelling mistakes bother you to the core stop reading! The Build Blog has a very loose format, I am a builder not a writer, just thought some people might be interested in the story. Enjoy!
